- More Information: Design Office, Bogumil Beres performs design and production of advanced composite structures reinforced with glass, carbon and aramide fiber.
Current production line includes high-performance Diana-2 sailplane and BPB-06 sailplane trailer. With its empty weight of 182 kg, all-carbon "Diana 2" is the lightest in the world FAI 15-meter Racing Class sailplane in serial production. BPB-06 is a trailer for all modern 15-meter gliders with unique, all composite design.
Diana–2” is an evolution of SZD 56-1 “Diana” model. In the process of its development we were able to practically verify a new approach to design of high-performance sailplanes. Number of original design concepts employed in Diana-1, proven advantageous to alternative modern designs, were carried over and integrated into Diana-2 design.
New wing geometry has been designed not only to maximize performance or glide ratio, but also to retain benign and predictable stall characteristics, minimize the effect of wing surface contamination (water and/or insects), and reduce the effects of atmospheric turbulence on airfoil characteristics.
The project has been focused on achieving the best possible performance over the whole operation range for one sport class, intentionally not compromised with various wing span options. Attempt to optimize the sailplane for various wing span configurations would simply result in sailplane that would not be optimal in any.
Diana-2 can be tuned to extreme range of weather conditions likely to occur in competition flying due to unparalleled by other sailplanes range of wing surface loading (27 through 58 kg/m2).
The maximum surface loading of 58 kg/m2, highest among all existing 15 meter class sailplanes, favors Diana-2 for record breaking attempts in strong weather.
Diana versatility is the effect of its exceptionally low empty weight, only 182 kg. Combined with small wing area, maximum wing surface loading can easily be attained without exceeding allowable limits of maximum take-off weight in racing class. This makes a huge leap forward towards a new concept of high-performance sailplane design.
